Here are the basic parts for the pouch sheath, all cut out and ready to work on. I have cut the welt from 9-10 oz. leather for this particular sheath, although 8-9 oz. would certainly do the job if you don’t have the heavier leather.
I usually like to cut my welt to the same shape as the edge of the sheath (that is, curved as is shown above), but you can also cut it straight, using a knife and a ruler, or a strap cutter, and then wet the welt and bend it to shape.
I cut my welt so that it will be even with the top of the sheath, but a little longer than necessary at the bottom end, and you will see later how to fit it.
